The refurbishment of the library has benefited us greatly. It is a real success story all round."

Penny Southern

Director of Disabled Children | Adults Learning Disability & Mental Health

Kent County Council needed to commission upgrades to Dartford Library, an iconic 100-year old listed building.

The Council wanted to integrate Dartford Borough Museum with the library and also reinstate the well-known Sir Peter Blake Gallery, whilst preserving the building’s cultural heritage.

Overview
Outcomes

The children's area was significantly improved by making it lighter and brighter - which encourages more users to sit, read and enjoy the visitor experience. Existing bookshelves and central marble staircase were refurbished, new bathroom facilities and a disabled-access lift were installed to allow for all-inclusive for residents and visitors.

This project created new facilities for the Good Day Programme, an adult social care initiative set up by Kent County Council to teach independent living skills. Users of the programme now benefit from a dedicated kitchen and dining area, activity/quiet room and meeting space.
