Devonshire Park Players Village

As part of a transformation scheme by Eastbourne Borough Council, a new, modern changing facility was needed for the professional tennis stars (including Novak Djokovic and Johanna Konta) playing at the prestigious AEGON International Tennis Tournament in Eastbourne.

Due to tight time constraints for delivery, modular off site construction was used. This meant that the module shells were built off site, whilst the groundworks progressed onsite simultaneously. The council did not want to compromise on quality, or have a building that looked like a temporary structure and both of these concerns were addressed during the project.

A specialist supplier was who could provide modules of this size with concrete floors. These concrete floors, coupled with the high ceilings, big windows and large open plan areas, offer a light and spacious feel, but at the same time a solid, strong structure.

The project delivered a modern building whose finish complements the local landscape and supports the council’s wider regeneration programme. Photovoltaic panels and LED lighting was installed, giving them the potential to regain some of the capital costs through the Feed in Tariff.

As well as creating high quality changing facilities for use during the tournament, it will attract tennis stars for future tournaments, and helps raise the profile of the event, the sport and the Eastbourne area. The building will also be a multi-use facility for Eastbourne Borough Council and local residents during the closed season, for functions, events and community meetings.
