Digital work experience
An accredited virtual work experience programme for students aged 14-15 within the D2N2 area.
Monday 12th - Friday 16th July 2021
Digital work experience for secondary schools and FE college students in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Derby and Derbyshire to engage and inspire them, as they discover the world of construction.
Developed by Class of Your Own and supported by our construction and consultancy partners, as well as award-winning garden designer and BBC Morning Live and BBC/RHS Flower Shows presenter, Mark Lane, this high-quality work experience teaches students the technical, professional and personal skills they need to unlock a career in the industry, as they design "A Home for Everyone."
You will be supported by a blend of public and private sector organisations, local SMEs and experts in education provision.
- Class Of Your Own are providing the syllabus, learning resources and guidance for teachers, schools and students as well as moderation and award for successful students.
- Learn Live will manage the broadcast and interactive online experience to engage the thousands of participants on their safe, secure, GDPR-compliant online platform.
- Funding from SCAPE, Derby Opportunity Area, D2N2 LEP and the Careers & Enterprise Company and our strategic partners Arc Partnership, Wates Group, Willmott Dixon and Balfour Beatty has made this free for both students and schools to participate. Strategic partners will also be sponsoring awards to recognise stand-out submissions from students.
- The social value generated throughout the whole initiative will be monitored and reported using the National TOMS.
A week long programme
The syllabus is built around a design challenge, to create a "Home for Everyone."
A collaborative construction, design, engineering and project management challenge engaging all of the STEM subjects.
Your students will work together in small groups - and with industry mentors - to deliver a fully detailed engineering design proposal.
They will be asked to consider the residents who will use the home, and how their design will make life easy and comfortable for people with a wide range of physical needs.
